Team Ratings: Manchester United vs Southampton 19/10/2013

1. David De Gea - 7 - Made a decent save late on after never really being tested and distributed the ball well. Couldn't do much about the goal.
2. Rafael - 6 - Always looks dangerous on the attack although nobody got onto the end of his crosses. Did well to cut out some of their attacks but sometimes caught out by Shaw on the overlap.
4. Phil Jones - 5 - Seems more comfortable in this position but is prone to clumsy mistakes and should have done much better for the goal.
6. Jonny Evans - 7 - Looked composed and played some good cross-field passes. Dealt with Osvaldo well.
3. Patrice Evra - 4 - Constantly caught out of position, a liability at times as he often loses possession high up the pitch and can't get back.
17. Nani - 5 - Frustrating as usual. Nearly scored with a header but should have created more chances for Van Persie and Rooney.
16. Michael Carrick - 6 - Did his job well in the holding role and kept the ball well but United needed more energy in the centre and his partnership with Fellaini left a lot to be desired.
31. Marouane Fellaini - 3 - The game seemed to pass him by in the centre. Failed to impose himself and was shown up by the hard-working Wanyama. Slowed everything down and was poor in all areas.
44. Adnan Januzaj - 7 - Involved in the set up for the goal with a wonderful pass and forced a fine save from Boruc in the second half with a long-range strike. Also contributed to the cause defensively. Will only improve.
10. Wayne Rooney - 4 - Looked tired and sluggish. Had a decent effort in the first half but gave the ball away countless times and never really got going. Perhaps his England excursions catching up with him.
20. Robin Van Persie - 5 - Good instinctive finish but also looked tired and perhaps carrying an injury. Should have scored more really.

Substitutions-

11. Ryan Giggs - 4 - Replaced Nani. Proved that he was not the player United needed to come on. Ineffective.
19. Danny Welbeck - 4 - Replaced Fellaini. Could have crossed to give Rooney a tap in late on but took too long and ended up losing the ball.
12. Chris Smalling - 4 - Replaced Rooney. Contributed nothing.
